Our Story | Jackson James
The Jackson James brand was built on the foundations of premium quality, sustainability and authenticity. As a brand we are paving our own way in the world of fashion.
Although a significant portion of the Jackson James audience is from Instagram we do not regard ourselves as a typical Instagram brand. Despite being an emerging brand, Jackson James has already been touted in the industry as the sustainable answer to a number of highly revered luxury streetwear businesses. The approach to launch the Jackson James brand with a minimalist and timeless collection has captured the attention of the athleisure generation.
Jackson James was founded in 2019 by Richard Offiong and Tony Olanipekun; it officially launched in Q4 of 2020 following the initial disruption of the coronavirus pandemic. The two founding directors always had the desire to build a clothing brand and coupled with their views on environmental issues and the negative impact of the fashion industry it was apt to create a sustainable and ethical clothing brand.
Richard had a strong passion for fashion from a very young age; formerly a professional footballer, representing teams such as Newcastle United and Hamilton Academical; off the field Richard was always surrounded and influenced by exclusive, high quality brands and styles. When he eventually retired from the sport Richard switched his focus towards expanding his knowledge of the fashion industry, studying sportswear design coupled with fashion. Richard’s natural eye for quality and the highly technical aspects of clothing allowed him to excel in the sportswear design course. The theory of sportswear design focusses predominantly on performance, to create an outfit which allows an athlete to achieve their personal best. To develop such a product requires the combination of fabric and fit and these aspects blended with fashion were key to the evolution of athleisure. The knowledge of materials and the fundamentals of craftsmanship were essential to help Richard understand the necessary requirements for the Jackson James supply chain.
Tony’s path into the fashion space was a more unconventional one, having previously launched a number of businesses in the digital and marketing sectors, Tony brought his business acumen and knowledge of operations to Jackson James. He was able to assist with sourcing sustainable and ethical suppliers as well as implement the essential infrastructure of the business.
The task of sourcing suppliers began in early 2019 – it was important for the Jackson James brand to be aligned with partners which had the same shared values.
Cotton the main material for the Jackson James clothing products had to be 100% organic and farmed using natural and non-toxic methods. The farming had to conform to ethical fair pay and sustainable standards – all other materials used to create clothing had to be either 100% organic and adhere to the Global Organic Textile Standards (GOTS) or recycled. The manufacturing process also had to be both ethical and sustainable, with compliance to the Carbon Trust. The entire process had to reduce the impact of the traditional fashion industry on the planet from product inception right through to the packaging.
The entire process also had to be of the highest quality as Jackson James positioned itself as a luxury brand providing luxury clothing products as well as a high end customer service.
